With an almost 80% majority Yuba County voters overturned the Board of Supervisors approval of the Yuba Highlands project. That project would have placed 5,100 homes, and additional commercial and business acreage, just north of Spenceville and Beale Air Force Base. Primary access to the project would have traveled south through Spenceville toward Wheatland and beyond.
There is little doubt that a revised project will be proposed sometime in the future, but the voters message was clear. They are not interested in such large-scale suburban sprawl moving into the foothills, bringing with it all the traffic and other impacts.
The "No on Yuba Highlands" campaign, which involved scores of volunteers, still has some unpaid debts and we encourage anyone who supports their effort to send a contribution to:
